Serenity of North Georgia Mountain Cabins Await your Arrival

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

There’s nothing quite like the sleep one gets on a cool, crisp, fall night spent in one of Rainbow’s Cabins in North Georgia along the beautiful mountain rivers and streams.  Sitting on the porch sipping your favorite cup of morning coffee while watching the Toccoa River or Fightingtown Creek carry the fallen colorful leaves, which look like they have been placed on the water tops just so, is a sight one will not soon forget.  The sun glitters off each leaf as it turns and spins its way downstream as you find your eyes following it until it has drifted out of sight.

The quiet sound of the rivers and streams fill the air and it is amazing how if you listen closely, you can hear the leaves as they land on the flowing water.  Fall spent on the rivers and streams in the North Georgia Mountains that are lined with the trees that have grown to create various canopies over the water is breathtaking to say the least.  The mirrored images along the water are gorgeous and the scenes are not soon removed from your mind.

There is something about the Toccoa River and Fightingtown Creek that captivates all your senses at the same time – all I can say is you just have to experience it to appreciate it.

I know sunsets get a lot of press and they are beautiful – but waking up in a cozy mountain rental cabin with the morning mist rising from the valleys and mountain tops while sitting in an oversized rocking chair snuggled in a warm quilt or blanket with your hands wrapped around your warm coffee cup while looking out at sun dancing off the water is quite the way start the day!

Rainbow Cabins would love to help you in choosing the cabin that is just right for you to start your mornings in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.

Down Home Halloween Festivities near Blue Ridge Rental Cabins

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Walking along the small town sidewalks of Blue Ridge, Georgia has always been a heartwarming experience.  The sidewalks and street lamps remind me of a quaint old town I’ve only seen in movies.  The merchants are always friendly and speak warmly when I walk in their store – they actually look me in the eye and ask “How are you today?”  It reminds me just a bit of the Andy Griffith show and the way everyone acknowledges the presence and appreciation of other people; even if only with a smile.

I was pleasantly surprised at the involvement the little town of Blue Ridge pours out for its Trick-or-Treat festivities.  They have really captured the safety and fun families long for on a Halloween night.

The streets of Blue Ridge are packed with babies dressed as pumpkins, m & m’s, peas in a pod and of course the parents who are dressed as the Cat in the Hat and carrying Thing 1 and Thing 2 with them!  Toddlers mimic their favorite super hero and try to fly while they actually run just fast enough to make their parents trot along behind to keep them in their line of sight.

Merchants dress in Halloween costumes and hand out candy to all the kids that come their way.  People walk their dogs and merchants actually put out treats for the dogs…who by the way…will likely be dressed in a costume too!  Children and adults will be laughing and chuckling for hours as they enjoy the fall festivities downtown.

And a play area in the park the kids love and lots of town folks will come out just to enjoy even if they aren’t toting trick or treaters-  carving pumpkins, bobbing for apples, eating candy apples, going on a hay ride- it is all there for everyone to enjoy.

There’s nothing quite like the calm and excitement of fall in the North Georgia Mountains …and there is nothing quite like the friendly downtown atmosphere of the little town called Blue Ridge on a Halloween night.

I am sure this year will be another huge success!

Let your kids experience a real down home Halloween, one that reminds you of a simpler more innocent time and gives them memories they’ll carry forever. Easily escape the pressures of the big city, unwind and rejuvenate your soul.

Rainbow North Georgia rental cabins put you minutes away from Blue Ridge and its special Halloween festival…visit them online to learn more.

Majestic Fall Colors and Fun for the Whole Family awaits you At Our North Georgia Rental Cabins

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

One of the greatest things about living in the North Georgia Mountains is the change of scenery every 3 months – but of all the seasons, I think fall brings about the most welcome change of all.

When the sun starts going down earlier each day and a little nip greets you each morning and evening, you can be sure the leaves are starting their brilliant transformation and the harvest moon will begin filling the night sky like a beacon of light – the kind of weather where you’re bound to hear people say “now this is the kind of weather I could live in every day!” I love pulling out my favorite blue jeans and flannel shirt for days filled with the smell of hay and nights filled with outside fire pits where we make s’mores that will be “sticky” to our fingers all night long!

Fall festivals, hay rides, corn mazes, apple pickin’ and cider sippin’ are just a few of the traditional fall activities we eagerly await for each year in the Blue Ridge Mountains. During October, local farmers turn their large gardens that yield delicious sweet corn into mazes for children of all ages. My kids love the “corny” fun they have at one of the many mazes offered during the beautiful fall season.

Everybody should make their way through a corn maze at least once in their life – even those who are “directionally challenged!” Wives can send their husbands in to sit and have great female bonding time while waiting for hours because as we all know, men will not ask for directions!

During your North Georgia cabin getaway check out one of the many Blue Ridge Mountain corn mazes in for a truly fun family outing.

If you’ve never eaten a freshly picked, crisp apple and let the juice run down your chin with every bite, well then you’re missing out on one of nature’s simplest pleasures. Mercier’s Orchard in Blue Ridge has every kind of apple imaginable and a free apple tasting bar in the back of their store. I have bought many birthday, holiday, wedding and “selfish gifts” at this place and it has something for everyone.

I love eating their hot apple pies just as they come out of the oven and of course, buy a few to keep around the house to nibble on. Their mulling spice is wonderful too – I usually heat up some of their cider and pour the mulling spice in. My friends and family love the smell, not to mention the fantastic cider. But the store has everything from steaks to clothes. If you plan on visiting Mercier’s, be sure to allow yourself enough time to shop – AND of course to eat!!

Mercier’s Orchard opens their orchards to visitors during the month of September so they can pick their own apples. I know people are always looking for great photo spots and I must say, the middle of those apple orchards is beautiful. The tree branches are weighed down with apples and everyone has a basket or sack to fill. You pay one flat price and get to take home as many apples as you can fit in your sack. My niece made some of the best pictures of her daughters picking the apples – they looked like something from Norman Rockwell!

It’s not anything one can stage…it’s just real life at its best. We look forward to this special time of year all throughout the summer and invite you to experience all of the wonders of fall at our rental cabins in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
